Foundations for Safe and Healthy Early Care Facilities Module

Description

Complete the Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s initial health and safety requirements in one course in an extended two-week session. Build foundational knowledge on how to keep children safe and healthy in this module with the following topics:

? Child Development

? Keeping Children Healthy: addresses infectious disease and immunizations, bloodborne pathogens, allergic reactions to food and food handling, and administering medication.

? Keeping Children Safe: addresses building premises and hazardous materials, supervising children, child abuse and neglect, sudden infant death syndrome and safe sleep practices, transporting children, and emergency preparedness.

The Foundations for Safe and Healthy Early Care Facilities Module supports the basic understanding of safe and healthy care practices for children in licensed facilities. KCCTO’s policy is that a provider may take the 18-hour module once every 5 years. Additional KCCTO courses are available for you to take to expand your knowledge of supporting the health and safety of children in your child care facility.
