How to complete the trainer application:
Timeframe: 1 week
Trainer applications are now being accepted for approval on a provisional basis only. This will allow you to continue submitting trainings for approval and to deliver approved trainings. Once the Cape portal has been launched, provisional trainers will be notified on specific requirements to achieve full approval.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age, and
- Earned High School Diploma/Equivalent
1. Complete the Trainer Application
Fill out and submit the appropriate Trainer Application. You must meet or exceed the prerequisite qualifications listed above.
Option 1: One-Time Training Approval
- Use this approval for a one-time training event
- Ex: Guest speaker at a conference or professional development day
Option 2: Ongoing Training Approval
- Use this for a 5 year approval
2. Review
- Your application will be reviewed for completeness after submission.
- If incomplete, you’ll receive a notification with resubmission steps.
- Expect a decision (approval or denial) within 1 week.
Approved:
Once you are approved as a Statewide Trainer, the next step will be automatically initiated by Trainer Approval Staff.
Step 2: Receive Kansas Statewide Training Approval
How to submit a training for Kansas Statewide Training Approval:
Timeframe: 4 weeks
After becoming an approved trainer (Step 1) you will be eligible to submit your developed training (Step 2) for Kansas Statewide Training Approval.
- Submit training for Kansas Statewide Training Approval
- Once approved as a Statewide Trainer , you’ll receive access to the Application for Approval form which is provided in the trainer approval email. Guidance on completing the application and a copy of the scoring rubric are found in the resources below. (download resources below)
- Have the following documents and information ready to submit for Statewide Training Approval using the new Application for Approval form.
- KS Core Competency Alignment Table
- Alignment of KS Core Competency(ies) to the training learning objectives and activities and/or instructional methods and the time for each activity or instructional method. This table is part of the application form, and is found in the outline and alignment section example and Outline and Alignment Section document
- Activities and instruction methods include a brief summary of the content, activity, or discussion questions.

- Supporting Materials
- Submit all supporting materials that will be used during the training such as handouts, note taking guides, etc.
- PowerPoints or other trainer facilitation materials are not submitted with the application.
- KS Core Competency Alignment Table
- Review of One-Time and Ongoing Training
- Two qualified reviewers will complete training reviews.
- One-time Training Applications will be reviewed for competency and standard alignment
- Ongoing Training Applications will be reviewed and scored utilizing a training rubric
- Approval requires a total score of an average of 59 points plus a Content Category score of at least 29 points in each of the two reviews. Rubric is found in the resources below.
- If application is not approved:
- Use feedback to make revisions
- Submit a new training application
- Expect a turnaround of 2-3 weeks
- If application is approved:
- Receive notification of approval documentation
- The training can be advertised as KDHE approved training
