The State of Kansas launched updated Core Competencies for Early Childhood Care and Education Professionals!
The Kansas Core Competencies, a product of extensive collaboration and input from experts in the field, including early educators, administrators, and partners, are a testament to your invaluable role in shaping the future of early childhood care and education. These competencies aim to provide a comprehensive framework that reflects the latest research, best practices, and evolving needs of our young learners.
The Kansas Core Competencies encompass a broad range of essential skills across four levels in skill areas crucial for the holistic development of children in their formative years. There are Nine Domains in the Kansas Core Competencies: Child Growth and Development, Health, Safety and Nutrition, Learning Environments, Planning, Learning Experiences and Curriculum, Relationships and Social and Emotional Guidance, Observation, Documentation and Assessment, Partnerships with Families and Communities, Professionalism and Leadership, and Administration, Program Planning and Development.
Training Opportunities
We encourage all early childhood care and education professionals to familiarize themselves with these new core competencies and integrate them into their practice. By embracing continuous learning and professional development, we can collectively elevate the standard of early childhood education in our state and positively impact the lives of countless children and families.

The updated Kansas Core Competencies is set to be mailed out to all child care providers who are licensed as of May 1, 2024. If you were licensed after this date, did not receive one by the end of October 2024, please email kccto@ksu.edu.
