Balancing Adversity with Positive Childhood Experiences
Description
The groundbreaking Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) study showed the association between childhood trauma and impacts on adult health and well-being. ACEs are common, and having an understanding and awareness of the impact ACEs can have across the lifespan is paramount in helping individuals and communities feel supported so they can heal and thrive. While a foundational understanding of ACEs provides a framework for working with children and families, the new HOPE (Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences) research helps us better understand key positive experiences that help children grow into more resilient, healthier adults. Backed by research and data, HOPE-informed systems enhance existing programs and utilize simple building blocks and actions that support children?s growth and development. In this training, participants will learn how ACEs and HOPE are connected; learn strategies for preventing and mitigating the impact of adversities and traumas; and brainstorm specific actions that create positive experiences and promote resilience.
This course is appropriate for all early care and education professionals in center-based and family child care settings.
