As children's literacy experiences build and expand, so do the skills that enable a child to learn the meaning of symbols and how they relate to their world. Environmental Print is the letters, symbols and words that we see all around us; where we live, shop, travel to, and learn. It includes traffic signs, food labels, menus, and business signs. Used in a print rich early childhood setting, environmental print can be a tool to create enthusiasm for language and pre-reading. This course will discuss the benefits of using environmental print and the ease of incorporating it into your program with multiple ideas to get you started.
