5. Registration needs to be received the Monday prior to the course starting date.

8. The day before the course starts, you will receive another email with a user name and password and an attachment to the email with instructions on how to log in and get started.
9. Courses start on Thursdays at noon and end on the following Tuesday at 9:00 p.m.*
10. Certificates are mailed 7-10 days after the last day of the course.
*Some courses are longer than others; we offer 3, 4, 6 and 10 hour courses. Course session schedules are adjusted to give participants more time for longer courses.

Behavior and Guidance:
3 KDHE credit hours | $20 online course
This course approaches key caregiver guidance methods combined with positive messages to young children. Topics covered in the foundational course are: indirect and direct guidance, setting and maintaining routines and rules, and common behavior problems.
Child Abuse and Neglect: Identification, Reporting and Prevention:
3 KDHE credit hours | $10 online course
This course addresses recognizing the signs of child abuse or neglect, including shaken baby syndrome and the reporting of suspected child abuse and neglect. This course includes information on abusive head trauma as required per KDHE.
Child Development:
3 KDHE credit hours | $10 online course
This foundational course will introduce basic knowledge of child development birth to age five. It will help prepare early care providers in understanding growth and development of children in cognitive, physical, social and emotional developmental domains essential in providing care and guidance to children.
Healthy Routines:
4 KDHE credit hours | $25 online course
This course covers the proper procedures of diapering, toileting, hand washing, food preparation and handling and sanitizing surfaces and materials.
Infant Safe Sleep Pratices:
2 KDHE Credit Hours | $5* online course *free if taken with Child Development and Child Abuse & Neglect
This course will provide information on the six sleep practices to utilize in the prevention of SIDS with infants in child care settings. Other topics included are environmental factors and creating a safe sleep policy for child care programs.
More Alike Than Different:
10 KDHE credit hours | $35 online course
This course promotes an awareness and understanding of biases in society involving culture, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age, race, gender and ability. During the course, participants explore strategies needed to confront stereotyped, biased and discriminatory behavior for caregivers, families and children.
Movement through Music:
3 KDHE credit hours | $20 online course
It’s time to get your body moving with this course. Learn about the effects of childhood obesity in regards to screen time, the importance of incorporating music and movement into the classroom, and learn some new ideas to moving your body through the day.
Nutrition: Good for You:
10 KDHE credit hours | $35 online course
This course provides a nutrition and physical activity curriculum. The course addresses division of responsibility between adults and children at mealtime, physical activity as an important part of the guidelines; how to improve meals for children by adding more whole grains, fruits and vegetables; and teaching cooking skills to young children. There is also a special emphasis on dental health messages as part of choosing healthy food and as part of a child’s daily routine.
Play: Problems and Interventions:

This course shows how to recognize children who have play problems, how play problems limit the development of skills that lay the foundation for academic learning, six behavior patterns that signal children need help, a process for helping children observe, reflect, and intervene and how teachers use direct support, curriculum activities, and peers to help a child develop play skills.
Preparing for the CDA:

If you are interested in furthering your career by obtaining the Child Development Associates credential, then this course is for you. This course will provide you the information about the requirements needed to apply for the CDA, developing your professional portfolio, the Verification Visit, and the CDA Exam. This course is updated to include the new CDA 2.0 changes as of June 1, 2013.

This course provides information and guidance in determining the signs and symptoms of illness most often seen in child care settings.
Online Infant/Toddler Modules Course Descriptions:
Module One: Infant/Toddler Social Emotional Development within Relationships

The first module will define the social emotional development of infants and toddlers within their relationships as well as discuss how the family culture influences parenting styles, caregiving, and social emotional development. Module 1 materials will assist in the understanding of behavior as a way for the infant/toddler to communicate and the meaning of the communication. Also included are various strategies using self-reflection and observation that will enhance the participant’s capacity to support the social emotional development of infants, toddlers and their families.
Module Two: Infant/Toddler Responsive Routines, Environments, and Targeted Strategies to Support Social Emotional Development

The second module discusses and describes the importance of the social emotional climate in infant/toddler settings, the importance of caregiving routines and identifies the importance of the physical environment and implementation of strategies to support infant/toddler social emotional development in all areas. Information also will include discussions on how to support families in promoting routines, environments and strategies that support social emotional development.
Module Three: Infant/Toddler Individualized Intervention: Determining the Meaning of Behavior and Appropriate Responses

In the third module, the characteristics of challenging infant/toddler behavior will be defined & identified while describing those behaviors demonstrated by infants and toddlers along with the relationship between the behaviors and the forms of communication. A discussion of processes of support for a partnership with the family in order to address the concerns about the infant/toddler’s behavior and develop a behavior support plan to respond to the behavior will also be included.
